A Compliment Sandwich of Topics

I want to light up the world with the benefits of autism. Unlike the creators of “Light It Up Blue,” I would like society to move towards neurodiversity. I’m not as interested in cures as I am in unpacking why society benefits from the inclusion of autistic people.

Yet I don’t want to support toxic positivity. If I create a space of “only the good things about autism,” I’m contributing to a dynamic of everyone feeling happy and blissful, a slap-in-the-face to people who endure micro-aggressions every day.

So in order to acknowledge that the world has flaw, and autism isn’t all roses, I’ll oscillate between pros and cons; I’ll use the compliment sandwich model: For every two posts about pros, I’ll wedge one con in-between, so the ratio will be 2:1.

The Outline

The following topics will be explored. I can’t guarantee the thesis is correct until I research it, so it may turn out that I prove myself wrong. I’m choosing theses based on curiosities that have cropped up while journaling about my experiences. Part of the fun of the research essay style is choosing a belief that needs to be reinforced or shattered.

Delays may occur depending on if I’m behind on my goals as an instructor and student, since those are higher priority than my blogging schedule. If delays happen, I’ll play catch-up during winter break.
